Design Challenges
The USB interface has come a long way from its origins in the RS-232 protocol to the high-speed multi-device connection of USB 4. Despite these advancements, many mainstream server/player-to-DAC interfaces still use USB 2.0 due to its reliability and cross-platform support. Newer chipsets also eliminate the need for special drivers for USB 2.0 in Windows, macOS, and Linux. Not all combinations of USB interfaces are successful in real-world scenarios and dropped packets negatively impact music quality.
